Trip Details:

Team members will fly to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines and after a one night stay in Manila, will fly on Philippine Airlines to the town of Tugagarou. From Tugagarou, the team will travel via bus for one hour to Ilagan Isabela which will serve as the base for the team. Over the course of nine days, the team will hold clinics and health promotion educational classes in Alinguigan 1st, a barrio about 20 minutes outside of Ilagan. (Ilagan is the capital municipality and the largest town in Isabela located at the junction of the Cagayan and Pinacanauan Rivers. It has a population of 131, 243 people in 24,085 households.) As part of the trip, the team will be provided a rest and relaxation day which will include cave exploration and a visit to Pagudpod, a resort beach in the Northern Philippines.

Trip Description:
  • Amount of in-country travel:  Minimal, to and from the airport (60 minutes each way), to and from clinic sites each day (roughly  20 min. each way) and approximately 6 hours one way to Pagudpud beach. The team will be staying over night in Pagudpud.

  • Sleeping arrangements:  The Marj’s hotel is a simple hotel with many of the amenitiesof home, rooms generally sleep 2 team members, not luxurious, yet very nice given the locale.  All meals will be provided by the host.

  • Running water/electricity: Running water is not available at the clinic site and electricity is intermittent. Adapters will be required to plug in any equipment. Hotel rooms have running hot and cold water for showers as well as air-conditioning.

  • Physical requirements:  Team members should be able to tolerate hot and humid weather (May - June temperatures average 95 degrees) with 100% humidity. Clinics will most likely be held in open air/outdoor sites. Team members may be asked to assist lifting heavy luggage, and daily activities may provide the opportunity for ample walking, though little will be required of the team.

Applications for this team will be accepted until November 15, 2010. Note that applying for a team does not guarantee acceptance. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application no later than November 30, 2010.

** Price includes airfare from major US cities to the Philippines, ground transportation in the Philippines, food and lodging in the Philippines ,travel insurance, all taxes as well as visa and government feels and a team t-shirt. The price does not include immunizations, airline luggage fees, and costs incurred outside of the Philippines.
